Let's Discuss! (1): Rant of a Frustrated Fangirl- Reacting to Bad Reactions for The Mortal Instruments City of Bones

Well hello guys!
I've decided to do weekly vlog posts talking about the latest things in the book world, fangirling, etc. So below you can read the post or you can watch the vlog, and watch me make a food of myself, so yea, enjoy!

With the past weekend being The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Movie opening weekend there have been a lot of feels. Good, bad, excited, disappointed, and so many more. And of course, the wide spread of emotions have sort a caused disputes between fans and movie goers alike.

I’m one of those girls who is a diehard fan of The Mortal Instruments, so I can honestly say I loved the movie even before watching. I was obsessed with the cast, the trailers, the interviews, and obviously the books. My predetermined love for the movie makes me really passionate about everything related to the movie. So when I hear bad reviews I do honestly get butt hurt.

Hey! Give me a sec to explain. It’s not the fact that people don’t enjoy the movie that bugs me; it’s the fact that most people don’t have rationale behind their opinion! Out of the hundreds of opinions I’ve seen these are probably the most common and absurd reasons for why The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was a “horrible and disappointing movie”:

1) I wanted Alex Pettyfer, he’s hotter!
UGH! Are you kidding me?! Is that the only reason you “Hated” the movie?! You didn’t care about the acting, the story, the art, all you cared was that Jace wasn’t hot enough. Okay fine I am a bit biased…I loved Jamie Cambell Bower, he is an amazing actor, and his grace, presence, and chemistry with Collins was perfection and exactly what I saw in Jace.

2) It wasn’t true to the book, like at all.
No. Do not tell me that, like at all. Practically the whole movie matched the book to near perfection, a few details had to be altered for movie purposes, but for a vast majority it followed the book to near perfection.

3) Twilight was like ______ and then this was __________
NO! NO. NO. THIS IS NOT TWILIGHT. TWILIGHT IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BOOK, just because it’s YA, it doesn’t means it freaking Twilight. Yes it has romance, and has paranormal, but that doesn’t make it Twilight.
There are so many more reasons and I can go on ranting, but the rationale for not liking the movie just irritates me. I feel like one person says this one thing and every other person says the same thing over and over just because everyone else says it.
But even with the abundance of negative opinions you have the positive side as well. It’s just the repetition of the same exact reaction over and over without a truly valid reason that doesn’t make sense to me. Everyone is entitled to what they believe, but they should truly believe it instead of regurgitate what they hear or read online all the time.
Aside from those people there are us fans. Who for some reason just love something so much no matter what the minor flaws. I guess this would be called the rant of a frustrated fan girl? Oh well, tell me what you think, how do you react to people’s reactions, how did you react to the movie? Just leave the comments below!

  1. I've read the book......and I didn't really like it. >.< BUT, I went to watch the movie and I honestly thought it was a good adaption and the cast was fantastic! As a sideliner who's not *incredibly* immersed in the fandom, I thought some of the bad comments were rather unfair, particularly the Twilight comparison ones.

    1. I totally understand people not liking the books, obviously everyone likes different things :) And like you said, a lot of comments were unfair, but that's the world *ends rant* I'm really glad you enjoyed the movie though!
