If only The Prince and Me were a book.
Haven't seen or heard of the movie? Here's a taste:
Paige Morgan, a free-spirited American college student attending a Wisconsin university, meets and falls in love with one of her classmates, but what she doesn't know is that he's actually a Danish prince, Edvard or Eddie, spending his "gap year" (before having to perform his princely duties) hiding in America disguised as a regular guy...
Call me crazy, but I honestly watch this movie every single time it's on television. I have most of the dialogue memorized. Even though it got some pretty negative reviews from critics, I think it could make a pretty awesome novel. The characters are definitely too old to fit into the Young Adult scheme, but the college atmosphere as well the issues addressed would definitely work well for a New Adult book.
At the heart of The Prince and Me is two characters who are both trying to figure out what they truly want in life. In a lot of ways, it's easy to relate to both hardworking, studious Paige and goofy, rebellious Eddie. The movie highlights the typical facets of a coming-of-age book, including dealing with love, loss, and family.
The love story alone could draw in a large interest. In the same way that young adults enjoy books like The Princess Diaries, this film would translate incredibly well onto paper. The varied setting, from a small town Wisconsin college campus to the regal palace housing the monarchy of Denmark, leaves a lot of room for descriptive storytelling. Additionally, the ending of the film (don't worry, I won't spoil it) would work well as an epilogue.
I'd definitely buy a book version of The Prince and Me.
