Author Visit @ Torrance High School

Hey everyone!

Today is just a super awesome post thanking all the authors who came to my school on March 30th, 2012. In October I had this idea to have authors visit my high school so I went on Twitter, and Google and began to contact people! I was so surprised at the response I got! So yesterday 17 amazing authors and one of the coolest librarians I know came to the event! Here are some pictures :D

The whole Library was made into stations so students could meet the amazing authors!

Review (Vlog): Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2)

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Review: Bloodrose (Nightshade #3) by Andrea Cremer

Calla has always welcomed war.

But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.

Books I've Read but Haven't Reviewed (1)

Hey guys!

I'm sorry I'm not reviewing as much! Junior year is at it's worst, and I am just stressed! I have an author visit that I am planning (20 YA Authors are coming to my school!) and I am completely behind on the blog. I have been reading, but not reviewing. So today I finally realized I won't be able to catch up. But I was on Vy's Blog  and got a great idea from her! I'm doing it a bit different by adding a mini review for each. So here it goes!

The Strange Case of Finley Jayne (Steampunk Chronicles, #0.5)

The Strange Case of Finley Jane by Kady Cross

Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Published: May 1st 2011
I adored this novella! Back stories in general add so much to the series itself, and this novella did just that. You go more depth on Finley, and her 'interesting' life. In general I love Finley's character, but the novella did a good job on focusing on her, and removing all the romance and what not.
Overall: 4.5/5

Interview : From the Alibi Series

Hey Guys!
Today we have an author interview with all the authors who helped create the Alibi Series! This series is a new e-book series, and each book is by a different author! So keep reading for the interview!

What gave you the idea for the ALIBI series?
We are long-time lovers of YA. With the dawn of the digital publishing era, we saw an opportunity to play with the storytelling construct in a way that traditional books don't allow. That was the initial spark of the idea for Twist Literary - to produce YA e-books with a twist. In the case of our debut series ALIBI, that twist is having the larger story unfold within the separate mini-stories of four different characters. Some of the scenes overlap so you see select interactions from two different perspectives, which is really fun. Some of the scenes are completely unique to the character, or are continuations of "what happened after" another character left. As the reader you get to see things you normally wouldn't be able to and the result is really fun!

Review: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. Having missed her flight, she's stuck at JFK airport and late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's sitting in her row.

A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?

Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Review: Wolfsbane (Nightshade #2) by Andrea Cremer

When Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemies, she's certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer, one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack and the man she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.
After reading Nightshade in the summer of 2011, I had some extremely high expectations, not to mention concerns, when I first delved into Wolfsbane. As a permanent member of #TeamRen, I wasn't quite sure if I would end up disappointed. Although there was, in my opinion, a serious lack of Ren in this novel, I was once again left in awe by Andrea Cremer's ability to weave a storyline like I'd never seen before.

Review : Cicada by Belle Whittington

Cicada

Today I am bringing back my little helper reviewer Tammana! She has a great review of Cicada by Belle Whittington which she just adored! So keep reading for her fabulously fun review!

Summertime for Blair Reynolds and her friends had always been carefree and fun...until the summer they happened upon something that was not human. As they band together in a fight for their lives, Blair's true love becomes something more than human. Something unnatural. And their survival depends entirely upon their ability to keep a secret.

Cicada by Belle Whittington is an out of this world book. She doesn't drag on the story, keeping it a continuous mystery. With more and more surprises along the way.

Blair is a normal girl with normal friends and family, until one summer when something totally bizarre and Definitively not human happens. Something that will change her life forever. And keeping a secret is the key to survival to this mystery.

At first i thought the book looked so interesting cause the cover did, and least expected that it would be about aliens. I kept reading and as i progressed the book got more interesting. I rate this book 5 stars and can't wait to show my friends and my family about this book.

Review: Ten Rules for Living with my Sister by Ann M. Martin

Hey everyone! Today Sneha is back! If you don't remember her, Sneha is my middle school reading/ reviewing buddy! She loves to read, and she loves telling people what she thought of a book!

Ten Rules for Living with My Sister
Pearl’s older sister Lexie is in eighth grade and has a boyfriend. Pearl’s only boyfriend is the family’s crabby cat, Bitey. Lexie is popular. Pearl is not, mostly because of the embarrassing Three Bad Things that happened in school and which no one has forgotten. Everything Pearl does seems to drive Lexie crazy. On top of that, their grandfather is moving into their family’s apartment and taking over Pearl’s room. How will these sisters share without driving one another crazy?

Pearl is good at making lists of rules, but sometimes, life doesn’t play by the rules!

Ann M. Martin definitely wrote a nice book for little kids that convey the message of the unique love between the two sisters, Pearl and Lexie, who are totally different people. Underneath all the fighting there is a special love, and relationship that can only be formed, not broken. I commend Ann M. Martin for capturing the essence of sisters. The Ten Rules for Living with my Sister was a pretty good book. I did not really like it because the vocabulary was very easy and the story was very boring. This book was meant for kids between the ages 9-11. This book definitely taught me to appreciate your siblings and treat them nicely. I rate this book 2/5 stars because there were no surprising twists and the storyline was extremely boring and predictable.
