Review of Die for Me by Amy

Die for Me (Revenants, #1)

The Summary (goodreads)

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel

Interview with Reece Hirsch and Giveaway !

The Insider
Reece Hirsch

Here is a short Preview of The Insider:
First corporate attorney Will Connelly's colleague hurtles to his death outside his office window. Within days, Will is a prime suspect in a murder, the target of an S.E.C. insider trading investigation, and a pawn in a complex criminal scheme involving the Russian mafia and a ruthless terrorist plot. Now, to top things off, he must ensure a deadly enemy doesn't gain access to the nation's most sensitive and confidential information-that has the power to do incalculable, irrevocable harm.  (goodreads)
I am so excited to have Mr. Hirsch as a guest on the blog, as well as telling everyone about this great book.

Now the Interview !

*Congratulations for a successful debut novel! I really enjoyed this book. Before writing you studied Law at USC,and then you began working at a Law firm. So what made you decide to go into writing?
I’ve always wanted to write fiction, it just took me a while to get serious about it. Before I went to law school, I attended journalism school at Northwestern University and edited and published an arts and entertainment magazine in Atlanta. When I turned 40, I decided that I had procrastinated long enough, and I finally got to work on the book that ultimately became THE INSIDER. I still have a full-time legal practice, so it’s never easy finding time to write.
*Though i am usually not a big fan of Thrillers, yours i seemed to enjoy very much :). What inspired you to write a thriller, what was your muse or inspiration for such and intense murder mystery?
I’ve been practicing law for 21 years now, so I chose to write a legal thriller because it’s the world that I know. I tried to start from a realistic place in my book, writing about a character, my protagonist Will Connelly, who was as true-to-life as I could make him. He’s an ambitious, driven young attorney on the verge of making partner in a big San Francisco law firm. Then I took Will’s well-ordered life and turned it upside down, starting in chapter one when he watches one of his colleagues plummet to his death from the roof of the building.

*How did you make up the character of Will Connelly, was a friend or family an inspiration for him, or like most great ideas he came to you in a dream?
I know plenty of lawyers who are very much like Will Connelly. He’s a composite of a few real people. In fact, I’ve been a little like Will from time to time, particularly back when I was billing hours like crazy trying to make partner.

*If the book became a movie, who would you cast for the characters ?
I think James McAvoy from Atonement and the latest X-Men movie would make a great Will. I think Ryan Gosling would be good, too. As for the other characters, I’m a bit stumped.

*What's the best part of being in Law, is it really stressful , or is it like in the movies where everyone is yelling at each other?
The best part about being a lawyer is that I get to solve people’s problems. It's definitely stressful, but there’s not too much yelling in my area of practice, which is privacy and healthcare law. I think litigators do most of the yelling, and I decided early on that that wasn’t for me.

*what other authors do you appreciate and really enjoy reading books by? And what books have you recently read that you would suggest as a must read?
I could go on and on listing my favorite authors – a few of my favorites are Richard Price, Elmore Leonard, Don Winslow, Colin Harrison and Kate Atkinson. As for recent must-reads, I’d recommend “The Dawn Patrol” by Don Winslow, “The Finder” by Colin Harrison, “Lush Life” by Richard Price, “Case Histories” by Kate Atkinson, and “Winter’s Bone” by Daniel Woodrell.

*And lastly; the classic question...if you were stranded on an island what 5 things would you want to have?
I would want to have: (1) My iPod, (2) a stack of the books listed above, (3) a case of Maker’s Mark, (4) my iPad and (5) just to be practical for a moment, a lighter.

so this was the Interview !

Mr. Hirsch was also willing to do a giveaway !  He is giving out one copy of his book THE INSIDER !

Review of The Other Countess

The Other Countess
I actually had this book for the past two months, but had no time to read it :/ so I picked it up two days ago..and here is my review.....

The Summary:

England, 1582

Ellie—Lady Eleanor Rodriguez, Countess of San Jaime—possesses a worthless title, but her feisty spirit captivates the elite of the Queen's court—especially the dashing new Earl of Dorset.

William Lacey, Earl of Dorset, has inherited his father's title—and his financial ruin. Now Will must seek a wealthy bride and restore his family's fortune. If only he hadn't fallen for the beautiful but penniless Ellie ...

Sparks fly whenever Ellie and Will are together, but circumstances—and the conniving interference of others—threaten to keep them apart.
My Review
I am usually a sucker or Historical fiction...especially if they are romance :) but For some reason, i wasn't able to get into The Other Countess. I figured it was the slow  introduction of the book.  When you begin reading, i felt the book didn't have a cohesiveness with the main plot, and you weren't hit with any sparks...if one should say...till about almost 100 pages in. This in my opinion slowed down the book and brought it down for me :/ .
What i really liked about was the character development, and how the Female lead was not the weak princess in distress, but she was strong willed. Will i found was a great guy..not the cutest, smartest out there, but he isn't bad :)
This is a great Romance, especially due to the time period ;)....but after reading so many great Historical Fictions, this one felt short for me. I would probably read the rest of the series, hoping it gets better, plus i kinda want to know what happens to the Will and Ellie later on in the series....sorry i want to say something but it would ruin the book...
This is a good pass time read, not the best out there but its not horrifying :) . I would suggest most people to read it, and if you haven't read historical Fiction i have a feeling you would like it :)  I would give this overall 2 out of 5 stars...maybe 2.5 stars :)

this book comes out in July!

Review of Passion by Lauren Kate

Passion (Fallen, #3)

Summary

Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . . .
Luce is certain that something—or someone—in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime . . . going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel . . . and finally unlock the key to making their love last.
Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history.
Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.

My Review
Well i have been kinda slow on posting a review...sorry about that. I am reading way to many books at once.....
Now to the review ! i can easily i say i fell in love once again...with guess who...CAM! no i love Daniel and throughout the book you can see the love between Daniel and Luce. I really enjoyed going back in time seeing everyone in each life, it made me love Daniel more and more because of his love, and I admired Luce for her bravery for handling each situation.
At times i felt the book was going a bit slow, or it was really repetitive. i get how she dies the same way each time it's just, Luce, i felt was a bit to quick for the story to progress. The story developed well but i wish there was more than "3-D" to each time period (when you read the book you will understand what "3-D" is....I don't want to spoil the novel).
Now for my reasoning of why i love Cam...i just love bad boys...which he isn't you find out (me: =D) He wanted to also save Luce, and his tortured past, really made me love him. Then i love Daniel don't get me wrong but he wasn't my type in the other books of the series. After reading Passion i think i melted, he is just so amazing ! sorry this is my gushy fan-girl moment over the guys....EEEEEP!
My favorite part was probably Bill he was by far my favorite character till the twist in the end, where i decided I liked Daniel. Lauren Kate did a great job by adding humor to the sad past. Bill reminded me of me...he is intelligent but very sarcastic, and at times the biggest goofball around XD. Anyways, the twists and turns the book makes really helped the book flow, just wait for the ending....you won't expect it...hehehehe....
This book was by far one of my favorites this year...but not the best one all year. I felt this book could have have gone a bit better at times but it was entertaining and had me gripping the book so i enjoyed it....it does my top 10 for sure though. I can not wait for Rapture! I would recommend this book and i would probably give it 4.5 out of 5 stars! so since it is in sores everyone should read it ! I Don't think the concept could have been written any better than the way Lauren did it ! :D

Review of The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

before i give a summary, i must say this book in one word is epic...so here is the summery:
The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1)

Summary

In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one except the thing inside her.

When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch. Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gas lit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits. Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret. Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help and finally be a part of something, finally fit in. But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on, even if it seems no one believes her. ( thank you goodreads!)

My thoughts

On goodreads there were many who despised this book...I'm not one of them :D I really enjoyed reading The Girl in the Steel Corset, I'm not sure if it was the whole robotic steampunk aspect or that there were 3...no 4 amazing guys!

I must Kady Cross did an amazing job! i have read many books...and this was really refreshing :) It might be me but i am in love with the 19th century so this book was already one of my favorites just because of the time era. I wont say it is the best book ever but its a worthwhile read, i'll probably read it a couple more times, but it's not the type of book i will read over and over and over...

I can though say it is worth buying and reading at least once if not more. At times i felt i knew what was going to happen next, which down graded the book by removing the shock factor :/ but then with all the romance in the air the book stayed alive. It felt as though at times the immense number of complications in the romances created the suspense the book needed.

Now for the important topic...THE GUYS ! well you all know i am kidding...sorta...well since i am a teenage girl i do like guys ;) ...and i was able to indulge in four diffrent guys through this book. I must say I enjoyed both Dandy and Griff very much....but between them i loved Dandy! I always fall for the bad boys, they are just so mysterious...and charming...and oh how romantic <3....sorry about the tangent but Griff is so sweet and i must say i imagine him very pleasing to look at kind of reminds me of Jace from Mortal Instruments :) so that is a good description of him. Then there is flirty cowboy Renn <3 he's not bad but i think Dandy and Griff win. there is also Sam...big and buff..and sooo not my type.....

I can not say i did not enjoy this book, because i did love it....but there were some flaws that can be easily fixed overtime. The characters were well developed but if there was less foreshadowing i feel that there would be alot more suspense and the book would then become flawless! Just from this book i can tell Kady Cross has a lot going for her ! She has a great imagination and i can not wait for book two in the Steampunk Chronicles !

This book is now in store...so go buy it now, or borrow it !

happy reading

YA-AHOLIC Giveaway

http://haleyeliseread.blogspot.com/ is Having a great giveaway Hello Summer Giveaway! enter to get a chance to win tons of great books that will keep you occupied this summer :D
here are the books!

Review: Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton

It starts off simply.

Draw a circle ... place a dead leaf in the center ... sprinkle some salt ... recite a little Latin ... add a drop of blood ...

Maybe that last part isn't exactly simple. Yet somehow it feels right to Silla Kennicott. And nothing in her life has felt remotely right since her parents' horrific deaths. She's willing to do anything to uncover the truth about her family—even try a few spells from the mysterious book that arrived on her doorstep ... and spill some blood.

The book isn't the only recent arrival in Silla's life. There's Nick Pardee, the new guy next door who may have seen Silla casting a spell. She's not sure what he saw and is afraid to find out. But as they spend more time together, Silla realizes this may not be Nick's first encounter with Blood Magic. Brought together by a combination of fate and chemistry, Silla and Nick can't deny their attraction. And they can't ignore the dark presence lurking nearby—waiting to reclaim the book and all its power.

Tessa Gratton's intoxicating first novel will keep pulses racing, minds reeling, and pages turning right up to the very last drop of blood.

Review of Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America

Here is my review of Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America:
I recently finished this book yesterday, and i have to say shockingly, i really enjoyed it ! :D i am not usually the Nonfiction type, and well i actually finished this book and i enjoyed it !

Well here is a quick summary :

It's basically how Nintendo took over the United States and how they did it...

starting in 1981 with a plucky hero who jumped over barrels to save a girl from an ape.

The saga of Mario, the portly plumber who became the most successful franchise in the history of gaming, has plot twists worthy of a video game. Jeff Ryan shares the story of how this quintessentially Japanese company found success in the American market. Lawsuits, Hollywood, die- hard fans, and face-offs with Sony and Microsoft are all part of the drama.

Find out about:

• Mario's eccentric yet brilliant creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, who was tapped for the job because was considered expendable.

• Minoru Arakawa, the son-in-law of Nintendo's imperious president, who bumbled his way to success.
• The unexpected approach that allowed Nintendo to reinvent itself as the gaming system for the non-gamer, especially now with the Wii Even those who can't tell a Koopa from a Goomba will find this a fascinating story of striving, comeuppance, and redemption. ( off of goodreads)

And my Review :
Well i enjoyed the book, but i love random books like this :)
I got this book as an ARC, and i loved it! Even though it's not fiction, it's funny, and pretty informative about the random facts of Nintendo...like Mario is a Plumber !... apparently alot of people knew that but i didn't..so i learned something new :D  lol...........
Truly though i kinda got some ideas of my own where to strike rich from this book ;)
Jeff Ryan did a fabulous job telling the tale of Nintendo in a way that was not only informative but funny...
i have a gut feeling many YA readers would enjoy this book for the humor, and many others would enjoy it for the information and the way it is presented ( like my Academic Decathlon Coach).  This book releases in August of 2011, so when it comes out, go out and read it :) plus the cover feels nice lol ;)

Passion

I have just received Passion by Lauren Kate! i am only 3 chapters in and it is amazing !!! highly recommend it  here is a summery :

"Every single lifetime, I'll choose you. Just as you have chosen me. Forever."

Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.

Sweeping across centuries, PASSION the third novel in the unforgettably epic FALLEN series

My review will be up soon !

Review of Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Summary off of Goodreads:

How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

My Review: ( sorry it's not supper detailed I don't want to ruin the book yet by revealing too much ) :)

Josephine Angelini did an amazing job with Starcrossed. Her twist on the Trojan war was enticing and just plain amazing. I completely fell in love with Lucas and Hector, well what is a YA book with an amazing male lead? And Claire is just an amazing friend to Helen. The Starcrossed love between Lucas and Helen was so sweet, and so tormenting. This book completely shocked me at parts (in a good way) and I highly recommend everyone to read it, doesn't matter if you are male or female. I give props to Angelini for writing such a splendid novel, and it was an amazing Debut Novel. She has a great future ahead of her as an author :D I can't wait for the next book !

I got this book as an ARC but it is already in stores...so i highly recommend you buy this book...you won't be sorry !
