If only The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin were a movie.
Haven't read or heard of the book yet? Here's a taste:
Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can.She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. There is.She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love. She’s wrong.
Though it's been nearly two years since I first read this book, it has stuck with me ever since. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is an absolute thrill on paper, so I can only imagine the possibilities for it on the big screen.
Horror flicks are big these days, and a movie adaptation of this would fit right in with those box office hits. Though not violent and gory, the novel contains quite a bit of growing suspense and gripping action that would capture the attention of a diverse audience. There's plenty of action for those who like that sort of thing, but still hints of romance for the chick flick lover in all of us.
If the premise isn't enough to convince you, well, there's always a certain boy with a British accent that may do the trick. :P Honestly, the right casting for Noah Shaw would bring in a whole flock of fangirls on his own. Finding the right actress for Mara would be a task in itself, but not an impossible one.
At the end of the day, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer holds a lot of potential as an adaptation, and I for one would absolutely be willing to pluck up a little courage to see it...even if I'd likely end up paranoid for days after.
And there you have it; feel free to weigh in down below!
Thanks for tuning in. :)
