If Only... (8)

If only Ever After were a book.

Haven't seen or heard of the movie? Here's a taste:

Danielle, sole daughter of a deceased French nobleman, is raised - more as a servant than as a stepdaughter - by cruel and snobbish Rodmilla together with her own two daughters Marguerite and Jacqueline. One day, she accidentally meets Prince Henry, the future king of France. A little later Danielle has to pretend to be a noble person and meets the prince again. This time, his interest in the young lady grows. But the day of the prince's marriage draws closer and closer without an official bride at hand. Actually, her stepsister Marguerite seems to have the best odds to win the race. But they all underestimated the power of true love, especially when a genius is at hand...

Okay, maybe I'm cheating a little here since this is a spin on Cinderella, but I really do love this movie and I think it would make an awesome book.

Set in France during the life of artist Leonardo da Vinci, Ever After follows free-spirited Danielle in her coincidental encounters with Prince Henry. What I love so much about this movie is the fact that Danielle initially cannot stand Henry and his indifferent attitude. She's got a lot of fight in her, while he sort of just soaks in the fact that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. There's a lot of tension between them as well as so much room for development. Together, they'd make the ultimate YA/NA pair, depending on the ages of the characters and the intensity of content.

I think there's always a certain appeal for fairytale remakes, and Ever After in book form would not only be popular with romance fans but also those who appreciate adventure and a comedic undertone. Additionally, setting would play a big part of a novelized version, and those descriptions would only serve to add further dimension to the characters and their actions.

I know I'd be all over this story on paper; now what do you think?
Feel free to sound off in the comments.
