Giving Thanks for Good Books

Beth Revis, the amazing author of Across the Universe, and now the upcoming A Million Suns, is hosting a fantabulous giveaway! All you need to do is create a post of what book(s) you are most thankful for! My entry is right blow this picture !

There are so many books I completely love! And even if I don't love a book, I still am thankful to be lucky enough to read it! If I had to pick one book that I must give thanks to, it has to be

The Amelia Bedelia books by Peggy Parish

It may be a children's book, but they started it all. These are my first chapter books that first got me into reading at the age of three. Amelia Bedelia was a my childhood, and were the seeds to my later blooming literary addiction!

Special Someone #5

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hey guys! Sorry for such a late Special Somone Saturday Post, this week has been crazy! But without further  delay...Here it is !

If you could go on a Date with any character, girl or guy- it could be a girls night out or a romantic date if you want...who would you want to hang out with? And what would you do?
So, I have been wondering what others would say...but being the cheesy teenager, that I am - I would go out on a date with Cricket Bell <3 from Lola and the Boy Next Door ! We would go out to the park and have a picnic! I LOVE PICNICS ! They are so adorable, and to go on a picnic date with Cricket would be just amazing, a story come true. And  on this picnic we are going to take a long walk and play with a Frisbee lol :D !

So Cricket is my Special Someone this week! Who is yours ? leave comments below with links or who your special someone would be ! :D

Follow My Book Blog Friday is a blog hop hosted by the lovely ladies at Parajunkee & Alison Can Read.
The purpose is to meet and follow new bloggers in the online community.
Q. If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?
Sooo, thinking about all the fictional boyfriends I have ;) , I would die to eat lunch, with one of my newest additions....Noah Shaw from the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer...aka Noah Freaking Shaw (in my head). A dinner date with him put send me straight to heaven! And what would we eat!...We eat everything! His father is a millionaire, so the cost of food won't matter! Though I love fancy food, I prefer a relaxing dinner on a couch eating take out Chinese (Kung Pow Chicken :D ) , and watching old movies! That would be so much fun ! :D

So who would you eat out with? And what would you eat? Leave comments with links to your answer so I can check out your answer! and If you are a new follower tell me, so i can follow back ! :D

Special Someone Saturday ! #4

Hey Guy's! This is our 4th Special Someone Saturday!!! :D
Here was the Question:
"Who's your favorite baddie character? Who's the villain that you love to hate or hate to love?
OH YES!!! Aeicha I love this question! :D Now I can totally talk about some Bad ass Characters....I have a "Gajillion" Bad Boys I want to talk about, I don't know that's many "baddie" females though...so I go with Bad Boy !! :D This week I pick Jack Dandy from The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross. So Jack Dandy *swoon* , if I dare say so, I love more than Griff! In The Girl in the Steel Corset Jack Dandy is the sophisticated, charming, and the one guy that everyone stays weary of. Though he is one of the most respected, I guess, he is respected for all things dark. While reading he basically had me on a spell, he has a way with capturing you ( but he seemed so sweet to with Finley.....but that is not part of this). He is your total,  Dark, Handsome, Sexy, Smart British guy, and well, he has to be my favorite baddie (whom I like not hate) as of now.
And the villain I hate the most at the moment has to be Sebastian from The Mortal Instruments. He is pure evil (the demon in him) but who can stoop that low! Gahhhh I hate him! He is just bleh, of all things. First he kisses Clary (aka his sister) (eww) and then second he is after Jace and well third...there is a huge reason but i don't want to say just in case of, you know, spoilers and then people freak out. But man do i hate him! >.< !

So this was my Someone Special Saturday! Who is yours ! leave links in the comments so I can check out your blogs and follow them as well :D

Review of I Can't Keep My Own Secrets

I Can't Keep My Own Secrets: Six-Word Memoirs by Teens Famous & Obscure

One life. Six words. What's yours?
True tales of love, loss, good friends, and bad hair days filled Not Quite What I Was Planning, the New York Times bestselling first book in the Six-Word Memoir series—and an international phenomenon. Some of the most compelling were by teens, so now SMITH Magazine has compiled a book written entirely by these bold, brash truth-tellers. From cancer to creativity, prom dates to promiscuity, and breaking hearts to breaking laws, the memoirs in this collection reveal that often the youngest writers have the most fascinating stories to tell.:
Met online; love before first sight.
Hair's pink to piss you off.
I fulfilled my awkwardness quota today.
I'm seventeen, engaged, and not pregnant.
My mom had my boyfriend deported.
Late for school every single day.
According to Facebook, we broke up.

I had a lot of fun reading this! It's a quick read into the mind of teenagers. The book itself is 182 pages and some pages only have 6 words. The 6 word memoirs are actually a lot deeper than one would imagine. This is the type of book that has no connected plot, but each teens six words tells a story no one else can recreate. Those six words, contain life, characters, emotions which you can find in a book that is 300 pages.

This is the type of book I can not actually rate on articulation because, it is a book of ones life story, and really because each story is 6 words, there is nothing you can critique upon that. Though I can say there are many memoirs you can relate to in the book, there is a memoir for us all. There are the sad touchy feely ones, then there are the funny ones. It was a quick read (literally 15 minutes max). If you ever have time this a great book to pick up!

and now here is my memoir !
Living, Dreaming, Reading will become Success.

~ Put your own memoirs on your blog ! Or in the comments below ! :D

Review: Farsighted by Emlyn Chand

Alex Kosmitoras’s life has never been easy. The only other student who will talk to him is the school bully, his parents are dead-broke and insanely overprotective, and to complicate matters even more, he's blind. Just when he thinks he'll never have a shot at a normal life, a new girl from India moves into town. Simmi is smart, nice, and actually wants to be friends with Alex. Plus she smells like an Almond Joy bar. Yes, sophomore year might not be so bad after all.

Unfortunately, Alex is in store for another new arrival—an unexpected and often embarrassing ability to “see” the future. Try as he may, Alex is unable to ignore his visions, especially when they begin to suggest that Simmi is in danger. With the help of the mysterious psychic next door and new friends who come bearing gifts of their own, Alex must embark on a journey to change his future.

In this enthralling debut novel, Emlyn Chand creates a world in which friendship, perseverance, and a handful of psychic powers come together to fight against what appears to be the inevitable and all-too dangerous future. This is a book you won’t want to put down—even after you finish it!

Review of EverBlue

She wanted her life to change... he wanted his to stay the same.
Best friends share everything with each other. Or do they? Seventeen-year-old Ashlyn Frances Lanski is tired of her boring, single life. Spending time with her best friend Tatiana, dreaming about kissing Tatiana's twin brother Fin, and swimming competitively are her only sanctuary. The girls plan to leave their drab lakeside town far behind for college. But when Tatchi fails to return home after a family emergency, and no one knows where the family has gone, Ash chooses to do something drastic to find them.
Ashlyn is about to discover what she'd thought to be true her whole life, wasn't, and the truth, too fantastical to imagine. Secrets lurk beneath the deep blue waters of Lake Tahoe, secrets that will change Ashlyn's life forever.

This book just hit the jackpot! One it is totally underwater themed... hence the title, It consists of an awesome female lead, and there is a hot merman ;) ! Such a bonus...but that comes later ;)

So first off, i love how the story changes from points of view! From Ash's view to Fin's.... Brenda Pandos was able accomplish the points of view perfectly! Usually when authors use point of view, one character has less emotion than the other (maybe that's just me) but while reading Everblue I felt every tid bit of emotion going through each characters brain. I got so into the book, i started reading it during my Calculus class...and let me tell you I usually don't ever try to read during that class.

The characters were really well developed, and there was enough detail...it was just right :). With every word I fell in love with Fin more, and with each page I felt Ash's confusion and pain. But those are the two main characters who are amazing, there is also Fin's sister, who i must say is freaking Kick-Butt awesome ( me using my teenage terms again ;D), and the evil Merman, who have quite a sense of humor. So just reading about these character's made them feel so real ( maybe it's also the fact the book takes place in the California...so that might make it more relatable for me).

You will have an amazing time reading Everblue: it's funny, romantic, and has the paranormal going on! It's a fun read.....BUT WAIT! WHAT ABOUT FIN!?!?!

Well Fin...he is just too sweet. The way he just cares for his family, and then the way he treats Ash, and feels bad when is a douche-bag...it's to cute! He is pretty much your boy next door. He is the blond haired blues hottie who you just can't stop yourself from falling for him. All i have to say is ...you must read to get the full description, he is so adorable and just wow !!!!

Everblue must get a 5/5 it was fantabulous and amazing ! It was an extremely quick read, which you engage in once you begin reading ! Everyone get yourself a copy asap, and tell me what you think of it, I would love to hear your opinions...till then

Special Someone Saturday ! #3

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This weeks questions is:
Who is that one character that you have fallen in love with, and from that point were they perfect for you? (You are free to fangirl and fanboy ;D )
So as you all know...I love to SQUEEEEE!!! hehehe....and I love to fangirl! So I have fallen in love with so many guys...just too many! One who is my number one who i can never get over is.....PATCH from The Hush Hush saga by Becca Fitzpatrick! I actually ended up being scared by him in Hush, Hush till about the middle of the book. He seemed like a creepy stalker, and that scared the "heck" out of me! But he grew on me, slowly first with the looks...oh he is amazing ;) and then his personality, he is so sweet! The way he cares for Nora, and focuses on her, oh and i love his humor....he is too adorable? Adorable doesn't fit...he is too dang fantabulous! He is sexy, funny, sweet, delicate in a sense, and he doesn't make Nora a subordinate, she is treated equally.....and he is totally bad-ass and all being a fallen angel, and delinquent.... he is just eeeeep!

So here was my Special Someone....who was yours ? Leave links to your posts, or just tell me in the comments! I am curious! :D

Q.If you could have characters from a particular book meet and form an epic storyline with characters from a particular TV series, which would you choose and why?

Gosh this is a hard one!!!  So Since I don't watch a lot of TV this is totally going to be ABC-familied lol! So here is goes!

1)  would totally have The Hunger Games meshed with Tower Prep....just because the adventure and mystery mix would be epic! That is sorta what tower prep is too, awesome powerful teens trying to fit right into society...i think would mix well with the Hunger Games.

2) If not that, then by far The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Girl in the Steel Corset meshed in with The 9 lives of Chloe King or Pretty Little Liars...just because Then there would be an amazing number of exceptional looking guys on tv....and there would be a group of awesome kick but group of girls...not including the Girls from PLL though...but still the guys ;) !
So what would you mesh together ! Leave comments so I can Check out YOUR follow Friday!!

Guest Post with Zareen from Reach for the Stars and the Books

Hola Guys !!!!! Today I am Lucky enough to have my Best Friend and Amazing Blogger Zareen aka Taco from Reach for the Stars..and the Books ! This is Totally Awesome so yea...Here's Zareen !

Hey everyone! For those of you who already know me from my blog or Twitter, I'm sure you've noticed that I do read as often as I possibly can. I've read 85 books so far this year, so choosing only 5 for this favorites list was incredibly difficult, but here goes!

1. Divergent by Veronica Roth - Pardon my bluntness, but if you're a YA reader and you haven't heard of this book by now, I'm going to assume you've been living under a rock for the past five months. Divergent contains everything I look for in a novel--strong but realistic characters, an unpredictable plot, and the perfect blend of action and romance. It kept me hooked from the first page to the very end, and now I'm seriously dying for the sequel. (Speaking of the sequel,Insurgent, raise your hand if you're obsessed with its cover like me! Teehee.) Dystopian and action/adventure fans, this is one thrill ride you don't want to miss.

2. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake - Have you ever come across a book that remains on your mind for days even after you're done with it? This was it for me. You'd think that reading words off a page couldn't be anywhere near as frightening as watching a scene unfold on a movie screen, but Anna really made my heart pound on multiple occasions. I vaguely remember having strange dreams the night I finished reading, and I definitely attributed them to this story. I loved that it was narrated by a male character, as much of YA, especially paranormal, is often written from the female point of view. Mature YA readers, check this one out!

3. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - After finally getting a chance to read Anna and the French Kiss, I immediately dived into Fishy's ARC of Lola and the Boy Next Door. I know it just recently released, so I won't say much on the subject except this--my fears about Cricket Bell not living up to Etienne St. Clair were completely nullified as soon as Cricket's character was introduced. Fans of Anna are certain to devour the awesome story of Lola.

 4. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson - To put it quite simply, this book was a stunning debut. Coming-of-age tales about fantasy and adventure have been a part of my life since childhood, and The Girl of Fire and Thorns brought back so many memories of those good ol' days. What I love so much about this novel is the fact that the protagonist is not the most attractive, intelligent person around, but she has remarkable potential. The message behind the story about faith and courage was incredibly powerful and awe-inspiring to my teenage self.

 5. Hourglass by Myra McEntire - First of all, I have a strange obsession with the cover of this book; I just think it's totally cool. What I really enjoyed about this particular novel is the originality of the plotline--can't say I've seen much time travel discussion in YA--as well as the lead female's attitude. Oh, and I can't forget the guys...yes, you read correctly. Guys. Plural. More than one. The only thing better than a hot fictional male is two of them, and Hourglass has the latter. If that's not enough to sway you, then I'll tell you this--there's a twist near the end that completely caught me off guard. Curious now? Read it! You will not be disappointed.

And there you have it--my top five picks for 2011 books so far! :)

Interview With Pica from Pica Reads !

Hey Guys ! This is an Interview with a Fellow Blogger Pica. Both of us are taking part in a event held by Brielle of Awesome Bookworm, who held a blogger meetup...and Because of this I found Pica's Blog Pica Reads ! So here is the interview  I had with her, and she also interviewed me so check out her blog as well!

Hi Pica, so I was just reading your about me page, and I must say, 2 things...your type writer is freaking cool, and that is a very pretty bird lol. When most teens are in love with there iPhone, and computers, or laptops even, where did you find your love for the type writer, and well the font pica?

I've always thought typewriters were amazing, but for years I never thought I'd ever have one myself. They were always fantastical writerly things of the past. For my birthday a couple of years ago, my parents and I took my great-grandmother's typewriter out of storage, and I've had it in my room ever since. Although I don't use it much for creative writing, since being able to go back and change stuff is very important when I'm writing, I like to use it for schoolwork sometimes, and whenever I have an excuse to.
The font Pica was actually a bit of a coincidence. When I first chose the name, in a game with my friend, I had no idea it was the name of a typewriter font. Once I found out, I decided to continue using it for other things (like my blog). And I must admit, I love my computer too. I use it to take notes at school, so I have it on my nearly all the time.

Since you review books like I do, and many other book bloggers..what do you look for in a book to be considered a 5 star or amazing read? (need more ideas on what I should look at)

This is a harder question to answer than it seems. Depending on the book, I look for different things. In some (such as Thirteenth Child, by Patricia C. Wrede), I love the wonderful character development in nearly every character. In others (such as The Near Witch, by Victoria Schwab), I consider amazing to be in the wonderful writing. Still others (such as Heir Apparent, by Vivian Vande Velde) are favorites because they make me laugh every time I read them. For this reason, I find it valuable to have some idea of what to expect when I'm going into a book. But even if I don't know what I'm going to love going in, I usually find something by the time I come out of it.

What got you interested in blogging, and that to about books?

The idea to blog about books had been in the back of my brain since around January of 2010. I finally started Pica Reads in April of 2010. In the beginning, the idea was for me to have a place to write down some of my thoughts about the books I read. I'm sure I would have been astonished at what the blog turned into at this point. I remember putting so much effort into a one paragraph summary/review in my first couple of posts. Now I regularly write reviews several hundred words long. I never considered blogging about anything other than books.

What are your favorite genres, for reading and reviewing, are you more into classics or YA fiction?

I'm definitely more interested in YA fiction. I enjoy the classics when I read them, but in my spare time I'd rather be reading a YA book written in the last few decades. For reviewing, it's pretty much the same. I don't generally review the books I read for school, so my blog is nearly all YA and MG reviews.

Describe your blog a bit, tell us what it's all about :D.

I post reviews of the books I've read recently, and publish various features related to books such as Judge a Book by Its Cover, where I compare different covers for the same book. I also highlight upcoming releases that I'm looking forward to. I try to post at least three times a week, and hopefully more.

Now just some get to know you questions....

If you could be any be any bird other than Pica Pica bird which bird would you be? (I am just very curios because you have a second blog which you have you alias named after the bookbird)

As I mentioned above, I chose the name Pica randomly. I don't have any special attachment to the Pica Pica bird. The name Bookbird on the creative writing blog I share with my friend, The Bookbird and the Wordgirl, comes from the name Pica I share with the magpie. But what bird would I be? Hmm.... I suppose a sparrow. I wrote a story once where I included all my friends as animals, and I ended up as a sparrow.

If you can have 3 things in the world...anything...what would your three things be and why?

If it had to be things I don't already have... I'm not really sure. Infinite more wishes? I'm pretty satisfied with what I've got right now.

What have been some of your favorite books of 2011, and what made theses books so amazing?

Goodness, there are so many already! A few standouts are:
Across the Universe, by Beth Revis
The Maze Runner, by James Dashner
Matched, by Ally Condie
East, by Edith Pattou
Divergent, by Veronica Roth
Beauty, by Robin McKinley
Poison Study, by Maria V. Snyder
Paranormalcy, by Kiersten White
Entwined, by Heather Dixon
The Near Witch, by Victoria Schwab
I wish I could recommend many, many more, but I limited myself to books I read for the first time this year. For more of my favorites, I'd be happy to exchange emails, or check out my blog.

And lastly....If you were stranded on an Island what are five things you would bring? (each person = an item)

My family would have to take up 3 of the 5, and the other two would be a boat full up with fuel, and a radio to contact people.
And if it isn't against the rules, I'd have the boats stocked with other things too, like food and water. But hopefully I'd get back to civilization before I'd need food or water too desperately.
Thank you so much for interviewing me, Fishi!

If you could pick one character in a book, movie or television show to swap places with, who would it be?
This is so close to my last Special  Someone Post last Saturday! So many Characters I would love to switch places with ! If I had to Pick one person...I would totally want to be Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins! One because Lola, has this amazing fashion sense, and her life isn't to crazy, with people trying to kill her. So I would love to be her, with an awesome teenage life, and I would still be in California...which is awesome! And another plus, is I would have cricket as my neighbor...squeee! and I would have him as my boyfriend!! I love Cricket ! So therefore I would be Lola, be cause i get an average-normalish life, an amazing guy, and Pretty kick butt best friend !
