Review: Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey, #2)

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

Review: Slide by Jill Hathaway

Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth--her sister's friend Sophie didn't kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn't actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else's mind and experiences the world through that person's eyes. She's slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed "friend" when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie's slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can't bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting distant lately, especially now that she's been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

What was your inspiration to write your book?
Keep Holding On was inspired by my own experiences with being bullied. By writing this book, I was able to turn the negative experiences I endured into something positive. I wanted to reach out to teens and help them feel less alone.

Nightshifted (Nightshifted, #1)

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester. It's a crazy book, a little politically dated now because it was written in the 50's, but it's a science fiction revenge story that is amazing. I love the escalation of the action and the consequences of the protagonist's choices -- there's nothing that you can predict, and it's mindblowing as it happens. The ending stuns you.

Blogger Birthday Bash: Interview- Melissa Walker +Giveaway

Happy Early Birthday to Melissa Walker's Unbreak My Heart! Unbreak My Heart will be released on May 22st! So come read this interview with Melissa Walker's and checkout Unbreak My Heart! Remember to comment so you get an entry in the giveaway!

What was your inspiration to write your book?
I suffered a friendship breakup in college that really affected me--it's terrible to lose a best friend, but people don't focus on it as much as they focus on romantic breakups. So I always knew I wanted to tell a story that involved losing a friend, and that was my starting point.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO WRITE YOUR BOOK?
We both worked in the film industry for years, as producers and screenwriters, and we are passionate about movies but haven’t been seeing the kind of movies (CLUELESS, John Hughes movies, etc.) for teens that used to be a mainstay. We decided to write a book that would have the same fun, adventure and emotional resonance of those films. We hope we succeeded.

Review: Moonglass by Jessi Kirby

I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I've thought maybe my mother drowned in both.

Anna's life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It's bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love--a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface.

While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean's tide means that nothing--not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna's mother's death--stays buried forever.

  Struck

Ah, May. I couldn’t ask for a better month for Struck’s birthday. To me, May has always been the month that holds the most promise. You can taste summertime right around the corner, but you haven’t lost (or wasted) any of it yet. And that’s how my book birthday feels, too. It’s a time that’s full of promise and potential, but there’s worry mixed in there, too. I worry that I’m going to get too caught up in the business side of writing and promotion, and forget what really matters . . . that the story I wanted so badly to tell is finally going out into the world. It feels more like this book is grown up and going off to college than that it’s just being born.

What makes your book so different from all the books out there?
Tristan is a pretty cool guy. Besides that, he's also got a lot of growing to do. He's a guy that's always had everything and now he has to work for something greater. Not to mention that he's a merman and has to fight for the future of his life above and below the seas. This makes him special in my eyes.
Are you currently working on anything new? If so can we get a clue on what it is ;D?
The sequel, The Savage Blue. The adventure continues and Tristan better brace himself. After that, it's a secret ;)

Blogger Birthday Bash: Interview- Katherine Longshore

Well hello there everyone!
Today is another day of My May Birthday Bash! And Today we are celebrating Gilt by Kathleen Longshore! Gilt had it's birthday yesterday on May 15th (Ashlyn and I's Birthday).  So if you have not grabbed a copy of Gilt yet you must get one as soon as possible! You won't regret it! So check out this awesome and fun interview with the author, Kathrine Longshore. Remember to comment so you get an entry in the giveaway!

Gilt

What was your inspiration to write your book?
My inspiration to write GILT came from the history itself.  I’d been reading about Henry’s wives for a while, wanting to know more about the women of the era.  Catherine Howard was his only wife who was a teenager when he married her.  I wanted to write for teens.  It seemed like a good fit.
But as I learned more about Catherine, as I read the accounts of her actions, I was inspired to do more.  She is often portrayed as a dumb blonde, or an innocent corrupted.  Even historians label her ignorant, flighty, promiscuous.  People make much of the tragic love affair with Thomas Culpepper.  I wanted to find a different angle.  Portray Culpepper’s history as I really see it.  And give Catherine the voice of a worldly manipulator.  A Queen Bee long before she became Queen.

Seranfyll Eligere (Seranfyll 2)
What is one book you wish, you had written?
Harry Potter. For obvious reasons, haha! I do love those books. But I also wish I had written Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I know that's not necessarily for young adults, but I read it when I was in college and absolutely loved it. It's a very clever book and fun to read even if you aren't into sci-fi that much. Plus, one of my favorite book characters of all time, a child prodigy called Bean (because he's very small), is in there. I'm actually reading another OSC book at the moment called Ender's Shadow. It parallels Ender's Game but is from Bean's perspective instead.

Why did you start writing books for young adults? And why this genre?

The teen years are some of the most interesting and dramatic years of our lives. Memories from our young adult years stay with us into our not-so-young adult years. There are so many things I love about the young adult genre, but perhaps the best thing is that few other genres can claim readers that are this passionate about their books.

Review: The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

Don’t Sweat.  Don’t Laugh.  Don’t draw attention to yourself.  And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.

Gene is different from everyone else around him.  He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood.  Gene is a human, and he knows the rules.  Keep the truth a secret.  It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.

When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him.  He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

Blogger Birthday Bash: Interview-Jessi Kirby + Giveaway!

Happy Belated Birthday to Jessi Kirby's In Honor! 2 days ago In Honor was released on May 8th! And let me tell you, this book is FANTASTIC! I was lucky enough to get a final copy last month and I enjoyed it sooo much! So come read this interview with Jessi Kirby and checkout In Honor! Remember to comment so you get an entry in the giveaway!

In Honor

What was your inspiration to write your book?
When I started writing IN HONOR, I knew I wanted to write the story of a brother and sister, and I wanted it to include a road trip. Maybe one that didn’t make sense to take, and the idea of Honor getting her brother’s letter and mistaking a remark he made as a last request came from there. And many, many conversations with my husband who is my BEST idea person.

Blogger Birthday Bash: Molly M. Backes- Interview +Giveaway

Why did you start writing books for young adults? And why this genre?
When I was in middle school, my mom and my teacher both ganged up on me and informed me that I needed to stop reading teen books (because they weren’t challenging enough) and start reading grown-up books. Even at twelve, this seemed like a huge injustice to me; after all, I was twelve! Why shouldn’t I be reading about people my own age? I didn’t want to read about old people and their boring old-person lives!Ten years later, I was in college, studying to be an English teacher, and I discovered books like Rob Thomas’s Rats Saw God, Chris Crutcher’s Whale Talk and Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak, and John Green’s Looking for Alaska, and realized that books about and for teens could be complex, challenging, and literary – and I decided I wanted to write them myself!

What was your inspiration to write your book?
The opening scene!!! I adore the city of New Orleans and have always been fascinated by all the beautiful old abandoned houses. They’re so haunting! Whenever I’m there, I find myself staring at them, wondering what stories they could tell. I think that’s how the opening scene manifested itself in a dream. I woke up with the images so vivid, it was as if I’d just lived breaking into that old house myself! The feelings stayed with me, the intensity and the mystery, the fear and desperation, the possibility, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what it would be like to suddenly have visions come to you, visions you didn’t understand--visions that came true. What would you do? What could you do? What would it be like to know things before they happened? How do you live with that? And to live in a city like New Orleans, one of the most haunted in the world. And before I knew it,Trinity’s story was just there.

Q: What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?

Dear Roald Dahl,
Thank you for opening my eyes to something special. Because of The Twits and Matilda I discovered a whole new world, a wonderful world. At the age of 3 you became my inspiration. I wouldn't be who I am if you hadn't ever existed. For that I thank you.

“I'm wondering what to read next." Matilda said. "I've finished all the children's books.”
Who would you thank? Link me your features! Oh and if you are a new follower do tell me, I would love to repay the kindness! :D

Books I've Read but Haven't Reviewed (2)

Hey guys!
I'm sorry I'm not reviewing as much! Junior year is at it's worst, and I am just stressed! APs and SATs, ACTs, and of course CSTs are on their way. I have been reading, but not reviewing. So today I finally realized I won't be able to catch up. But I was on Vy's Blog and got a great idea from her! I'm doing it a bit different by adding a mini review for each. So here it goes!

A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)

Book: A Million Suns by Beth Revis
Published: January 10, 2012
Publisher: Razorbill
A Million Suns is the second installment in Beth Revis's Across the Universe Trilogy. I was MIND-BOGGLED! This book was just a huge shock, and to be quite honest unexpected. It was EXTREMELY fast paced. At times I really wished there was some calm down time in the book. I guess dealing with the situations Elder-now Eldest and Amy. Basically Godspeed is in turmoil, and well the world that everyone knew was a lie. A fast paced and enjoyable read you must try A Million Suns if you adored Across the Universe and love Sci-fi. Remember this is actually one YA that doesn't have the dreamy boy and girl in distress. It has two awesome strong leads, and well just full of epicness!

What was your inspiration to write your book?
