Defy: Blog Tour- Guest Post

Hey Everyone!
Today on The Reading Fish we have Raine Thomas! She is the amazing author of the Becoming trilogy as well as the upcoming Firstborn Trilogy! Today she is here for her blog tour for Defy, the first book in the Firstborn Trilogy.

Swoon-Worthy Male Characters

Thanks so much for having me on The Reading Fish, Ishita! It’s such a delight to be here.

You know, I waffled a bit when deciding on a guest post topic. There are so many options, after all! With Defy’s release being at the forefront of my mind, though, it didn’t take long for me to settle on a topic I could really, ahem, sink my teeth into.

The swoon-worthy male lead.

This is a surprisingly polarizing subject, however. It never ceases to amaze me how much one reader’s taste differs from another when it comes to what appeals in a male lead. Do you want a guy who opens doors for the woman he loves, or a guy who closes them in her face so she learns to open them for herself? Maybe something in between?

Feature and Follow Friday #12

Follow My Book Blog Friday is a blog hop hosted by the lovely ladies at Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet and follow new bloggers in the online community.

Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke up" with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

Hmmm. To be honest I really don't think so. I usually fall in love with the guy and never not end up loving them in the end. There are times when I am like NOOOOOO!!! WHYYY!!! HOW!!! But I still love them in the end. I am weird in that sense.

So yea, has this ever happened to you? Leave me links to your #FFs so I can check them out and return the follow :D

LA Times Festival of Books 2012

Yesterday I had the most AMAZING day ever! It was full of books, talented authors, friends, and fun! I was with an amazing group ( the THS Book Club <- I love these girls!). Our original group started out with 4 of us girls, one being Zareen from Reach for the Stars...and the Books and the other being Wafa from The Literary Ninja. We also met up with some other club members while we were there! So in the end 7 of us were representing our fantastic book club! We were basically in the YA area, and lets just say it involved a lot of waving and laughing! :D

Here are a few pictures of the event! But Let me tell you this is not even half of it!

Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia, authors of the Beautiful Creatures books
Lauren Kate, author of the Fallen series
D.J. MacHale, author of the Pendragon series and Morpheus Road trilogy

Follow and Feature Friday #11

Q: Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

Ahhhh soo many to chose from!! Ok so at the moment I would pick Will Herondale <33 from The Infernal Devices and Four from Divergent. Both are truly my loves, and AMAZING fighters! Will was born and trained to fight and Four is Dauntless. Who would win? I think Will, just because he is Will and Will is amazing. But then again, Four is tough and is not an emotional mess like will. GAHHHH I have no idea who would win!! Actually I do! It would be a....TIE! Both are just too good.

What about you? Who would you throw into the rink? Link your Follow and Feature Fridays down bellow in the comments! And if you are a new follower be sure to tell me so I can follow back! :D

Review: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1)
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Rockin' the Drop!

Guess what I am doing today?

Rock the Drop is this amazing event to help promote YA literature! So this year I have decided to take part! TODAY drop off a book ( if you would like) in a public place for someone else to pick up! Anyway, I am dropping off an ARC of The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann, in a random Korean grocery Store in the LA area. (Korean grocery stores carry a lot of Indian groceries). So one lucky shopper maybe getting a surprise between the apples and oranges!

Follow Friday #10

Follow My Book Blog Friday is a blog hop hosted by the lovely ladies at Parajunkee & Alison Can Read.
The purpose is to meet and follow new bloggers in the online community.

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
Ummmm no. Why would I do that? I would check out from the Library, sure! But BUY it?! NEVER! First of all I am in high school, and I have no job. Second any money I do make via blog designs, or presents, I spend it on books I KNOW I will LOVE. I have gotten a few from the Library to see what it was so bad...but if I end up liking the book, THEN I will buy it!

So what about you, do you buy books that have negative reviews? Link me to your Follow Fridays so I can check them out! :D

Review: Becoming by Raine Thomas

Becoming (Daughters of Saraqael, #1)

Every three years, Amber Hopkins explodes. Okay, not a blown-to-smithereens explosion, but whatever it is always hurts like hell and leaves her life a shambles. She’s already worked her way through five foster placements, and she’s doing whatever she can to avoid getting blasted into a sixth.

As her eighteenth birthday approaches and she feels the strange and powerful energy building, disaster looms. When the inevitable explosion occurs, her life gets its biggest shakeup yet. She’ll not only learn how her fellow foster and best friend, Gabriel, really feels about her, but she’ll discover that she isn’t really without family.

To top it all off, she’ll finally find out why she’s having the power surges: she isn’t entirely human.

Amber must Become, transitioning to another plane of existence and risking the loss of the most important relationship she’s ever had. Her choice will impact the future of an entire race of beings, and will pit her against an enemy that will prey upon her doubt to try and take her very life.

Kind of makes the explosions now seem like a cakewalk
